7 refreshing spring walks to take as Victoria’s weather warms

One of the best ways to enjoy the warming weather and budding flowers is embarking on a nature walk or two!

Luckily, Victoria offers a number of prime walking locations that satisfy every nature need—whether it’s ocean views, flowers and/or wildlife you’re looking for, there’s something for everyone.

To celebrate the essence of spring and the increasing appearances from our pal, the sun, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite spots for you!

Here’s 7 gorgeous spots for a leisurely trek in and around Victoria:

Songhees Walkway

Known to be a hotspot for seals, heron and more, this stunning walkway impresses all that behold it—often referred to as the most pleasant area to walk in Victoria.

Take in the fantastic views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic mountains as you walk a paved, well-lit path with plenty of benches to stop for a rest.

The Songhees Walkway starts just as you cross the new Johnson Street Bridge and goes to the marina at West Bay.

Beacon Hill Park

Known as the ‘crown jewel’ of Victoria’s park system, this park is over 740,000 square metres of natural areas, manicured flower beds, footpaths and many sports and play features for the whole family to enjoy.

There are plenty of footpaths that give you the freedom to meander as you see fit and plenty of time to try and spot a few animals.

You may even come across a peacock or two!

Cedar Hill Park

This 3.6 kilometre chip trail passes through gorgeous wooded areas by King’s Pond and surrounds the Cedar Hill Golf Course.

There are also some baseball diamonds near the south end that are open to the community.

According to AllTrails, it takes around 49 minutes to complete the loop.

Enjoy a calming stroll, just look out for stray golf balls while you’re near the course!

Island View Beach Regional Park

Just a short drive out of Victoria, Island View Beach provides gorgeous views of Haro Strait!

It’s a popular location for beachgoers, walkers, bird watchers and more! If you pay close attention, you may even spot some fossils that are known to be in the area.

The walking trail follows the shoreline, goes up from the beach area and turns into a loop.

Bowker Creek Walkway

The Bowker Creek Walkway presents pathway along the creek and is a really popular out-and-back walking and running location.

The creek has been revitalized and preserved, giving the ducks and other wildlife the ability to appreciate it alongside us!

This is perfect for someone looking to partake in that quick fresh air pick-me-up.

Dallas Road/Ogden point

This stretch of of the coast is popular for a reason! The entire length of Dallas Road is neighboured with breathtaking views of the ocean and there are multiple staircases along the path for beach access points.

Where Dallas Road meets Dock Street, you’ll find the Breakwater access that takes you along a elevated path out over the water.

Plus, anywhere along Dallas is a great place to watch the sunset if the weather cooperates and that’s what you’re feeling!

Highrock Cairn Park

This great and accessible system of trails offers great panoramic views and the chance to soak in a bit of history.

Located near Esquimalt and estimated to take around 15 minutes to complete, the trails are known to be enjoyable and they’re considered to be easy routes.

It’s great for walking and running, so you’ll see lots of other people enjoying it too!
