Saanich police investigating afternoon sexual assault

Saanich police are investigating allegations of a sexual assault that took place Saturday afternoon in the 3600 block of Highway 17, near Uptown Shopping Centre.

According to a media release, the suspect and victim were “recently acquainted” with each other.

The investigation is ongoing and no other details were released.

Saanich police also commented on a social media post that suggested the incident occurred in the Regina Park homeless encampment. They stated the incident did not occur at Camp Namegans, the tent city in Regina Park.

“Saanich Police are aware of some social media that is suggesting the incident occurred in the Regina Park homeless encampment. However, Saanich Police can confirm this is incident did not occur at that location,” the release read.

A post on a Facebook group claims a 14-year-old girl was lured into the tent city near Uptown Shopping Centre where she was drugged and sexually assaulted by a male in his 30s.
