As impaired driving continues to be a major problem in BC, the Victoria Police Department is all set to begin their ‘Summer Counter Attack Campaign’ to apprehend more and more impaired drivers in the city.

Starting this week, VicPD will have appointed officers at select checkpoints throughout Victoria and Esquimalt over the next two months, from which they will be screening drivers for impairment.

The measure is deemed particularly necessary after officers apprehended a total of 19 impaired drivers during just the first 10 days of July 2018.

According to ICBC statistics, drunk or otherwise impaired drivers cause the death of about 65 British Columbians every year.
