There’s a new program in BC that makes it easier for couples to get divorced

Share

The BC provincial government has just announced the launch of an application that will help estranged couples streamline the process of getting divorced.

The Online Divorce Assistant Application will make it easier for people to complete documentation for joint-filing divorce cases in the Supreme Court of British Columbia – but only those in which there are no children involved.

Ex-couples who agree on all family law issues relevant to their situation (like spousal support and the division of family property and debts) will be able to use this program to minimize the number of errors they may make while filling out the otherwise complex paperwork.

Besides making things a lot easier for people who are going through a divorce, the tool is also expected to reduce the workload of court administration staff.

“The application is expected to lay the framework for future developments, such as an online protection order service,” reads a release from the Ministry of Attorney General.

“Plans are underway to expand the Online Divorce Assistant in coming months to include joint-filing divorces in cases that involve children.”
