Around four homes have been evacuated on Lampson Street between Lyall and Wychbury Roads, as of 2:15 p.m. this afternoon.
According to Victoria Buzz followers Kathleen Naugle and Jayson Harris, Esquimalt Fire Department and Fortis BC are on site conducting an investigation.
Witness reports say officials have begun digging in the area, and that a gas leak has been confirmed.
Fortis BC representative Diana Sorace told Victoria Buzz that crews are working to repair a gas line that was damaged by a third party.
“The estimated time that repairs will be complete is within the next few hours,” Sorace stated in an email.
“We would like to remind the public that the majority of damages to our system are preventable – always call or click before you dig to obtain information on the location of buried gas lines and other utilities.”
