Yep, it’s hump day and it’s Independence Day in the United States!

The week is just flying by and to haul you over that hump to the weekend, here are 5 things happening in and around Victoria today!

Lunch-time pipe organ recital

What: Come, bring a friend, bring your lunch and enjoy 30 minutes of organ music played by Christine Purvis, including pieces by Couperin, Bach, Willan, and Franck.

Workshop: Gender Diversity in Our Communities

What: Join Ambit Gender Diversity Consulting during Victoria Pride Week 2018 for a free workshop on how to practice allyship with trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit communities. This workshop will focus on what it means to be an active and engaged ally: we’ll create space to practice asking sensitive questions, intervening in challenging moments, and recovering from mistakes.

The Drawer Boy

What: One of the most successful plays in Canadian history, The Drawe Boy has been produced at theatres around the world since its premiere at Toronto’s Theatre Passe Muraille in 1999.
The Drawer Boy delves into the lives of two veteran farmers, Angus and Morgan and replays the adventures of a young actor from a Toronto theatre group who visits their rural Ontario home to “research” farm life for a new play he is involved in creating. In doing so, Healey explores the way in which art both appropriates the lives of its subjects and changes their own interpretation of it.

Laughs GaLore – Headlining Katie-Ellen Humphries!

What: A founding member and producer of The Lady Show, a live comedy variety show that features stand-up, sketch, characters, news and music with a focus on intersectional feminism, Katie-Ellen is versatile is comedian who began as a writer and regular cast member of Atomic Vaudeville, a Victoria theatre company currently enjoying success with their original musical Ride the Cyclone, produced off-Broadway in 2016.

Free Cooking Demonstrations – July

And if you want to watch America’s 4th of July fireworks from the comfort of Canada, head down to Dallas Road to watch Port Angeles celebrate with fireworks just after dark at around 10 p.m.
