West Shore RCMP are looking to speak to an elderly cyclist who was seen spraying a chemical irritant on a dog.
A witness spoke to officers about his encounter with the cyclist on May 29th on the Galloping Goose trail in the District of Metchosin.
The man was observed carrying a chemical irritant, prompting the witness to start recording the encounter, after which the two men got into a heated discussion.
The elderly man then began cycling away, and while doing so, was seen using the chemical spray on a passing dog.
The cyclist is described as a Caucasian man between 70-75 years old with white hair, standing about 5’5″-5’10” tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a yellow and green shirt, red and black helmet, and riding an orange road style bike.
“Our investigation is still open,” says Cst. Matt Baker, spokesman for the West Shore RCMP.
“We want to talk to the man to get his side of the story. There is a reason he did what he did and we don’t want to jump to conclusions. Only he knows why he did what he did that day.”
