Two men on Vancouver Island suffered grave injuries while they were at work earlier this week.

The first incident happened in Parksville on Monday, June 4th, where a truck driver died while delivering a shipment of steel beams to a construction site on Herring Gull Way.

The 40 year old man was from Nanaimo and was subcontracted for the position. RCMP, firefighters and EHS were on site when it occurred, and WorkSafe BC was informed about it at 12:38 PM.

“The City of Parksville regrets this tragic incident and loss of life and extends our most sincere condolences to the driver’s family, friends and colleagues,” stated the City in a release.

No further details have been issued as the investigation is currently ongoing.

The second incident also occurred on June 4th, this time at Alpine Disposal on Dunford Avenue in Langford. WorkSafe BC’s preliminary information indicates that a worker was seriously injured and transported to Victoria General Hospital.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the man sustained the injuries after being pinned between a vehicle and a container.
