A 40-year-old Nanaimo man is in the hospital recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after he collided with a Nanaimo RCMP cruiser on his bike on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the cyclist rode through a stop sign at the intersection of Kennedy and Hecate Street and collided with the cruiser, which was partway through the intersection.

Paramedics were on the scene to transport the man to the hospital where he was kept overnight for a medical assessment.

The officer involved was not injured, and an investigation is ongoing.

Victoria Buzz has reached out to the Independent Investigations Office to confirm reports that it was called in to investigate. We’ll update when we hear back.
