Earls Restaurant applies for extended late-night hours at downtown location

Good news for happy hour fans: Earls Restaurant may soon be open a little bit later seven days a week.

Earls Government Street location has applied to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCLB) for an extension of its operating hours by one hour.

Should the application be approved, the downtown Victoria restaurant will stay open until 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

According to a council report, applications to the LCLB for a change in hours don’t require the applicant to submit a letter of intent.

City council was only asked to provide letters and comments relating to the potential for noise, impact on the community, and whether the extended hours would “result in the establishment being operated in a manner that is contrary to the primary purpose.”

According to the report, city staff received no letters in opposition, one neutral letter from the Downtown Victoria Residents Association, and two letters in support.

The report concludes by recommending that city council supports the application for the change in hours.

Council will vote on the motion at its next committee meeting on Thursday, June 14.
