Central Saanich Police and BC Coroners’ Service are investigating the death of a 76-year-old man whose body was found in Newton Park, near Mt Newton Crossroad in Central Saanich.

According to Central Saanich Chief Cst. Les Sylven, the body was first spotted by a woman who was out paddle boarding with her friend, at about 6:30 PM on Wednesday, June 6th.

They called 911 for help, after which police officers, fire, and paramedics arrived to try to revive the man, but were unsuccessful.

“It took a bit of time but we were able to locate his next of kin who lived in the area, and let them know,” Chief Sylven told Victoria Buzz.

“At this point, we’re not able to rule out any foul play but we’re investigating with the BC Coroner’s Service.”
