VicPD officer nearly struck by vehicle that later crashed into coffee shop

Victoria Police have released a statement saying that the Independent Investigations Office (IIOBC) is looking into a case where a vehicle crashed into a coffee shop on Quadra and Hillside Monday morning.

Turns out, the car that crashed into the Nook Coffee & Tea shop at about 1 a.m. had previously almost hit an officer (who was responding to an unrelated call at the time) while travelling through a stop sign at Quadra and Courtney Streets.

Soon after, the car hit another vehicle before crashing into the building on Quadra Street. Both the vehicles and the building sustained serious damage.

The driver of the out of control vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries.

According to VicPD, IIOBC is now investigating to determine whether there was any connection between the accident and police actions.
