A new addition to one of Victoria’s favourite breweries has beer fans hopping.

The Phillips Brewing & Malting Co.’s new tasting room opened earlier this month, and it’s already making a splash with local brew connoisseurs.

“So far it’s going really well,” Phillips founder Matt Phillips tells Victoria Buzz. “There have been lots of people coming through and checking it out. We’re pretty happy with that.”

The new space is located next door to the brewery’s former retail store on the corner of Government and Discovery Streets.

A neon sign shaped like the phoenix featured on their Phoenix Lager labels is currently being fabricated, though Phillips wasn’t sure on the exact timeline. “We’re hoping to see it by this summer,” he said.

The tasting room seats 134 patrons, and has three large windows allowing patrons to look into the bottling hall. Taps are fed directly by eight 10hL tanks sitting above the serving bar.

Speaking of the bar, Phillips has 16 taps going at all times, as well as a fully stocked fridge with their signature craft beers, sodas, and spirits.

If you don’t see your favourite, don’t panic. “The intent is that four or five taps will be popping on and popping off, keeping things changing,” Phillips says.

If you’re hungry, you can also try out their cheese board with a paired beer flight, dry cured meat sticks infused with Phillips beer, or fresh pretzels with Blue Buck-infused mustard.

The tasting room is open from noon to 10 p.m. daily, while the adjacent beer shop is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

With so many events taking place at Phillips this summer, we expect the tasting room will continue being a popular spot!
