The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions following a rollover crash on the Malahat.
The incident happened at around 11 a.m in Goldstream Provincial Park near Finlayson Arm Road.
A small fuel truck could be seen on its side and was leaking fuel in the southbound lane. HAZMAT crews have contained the fuel leak, according to Westshore RCMP.
A van was also involved in the accident. The driver and passenger were both removed from the vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Drive BC, the highway is expected to be closed until 8 p.m. this evening. A detour is available via Finlayson Arm Road and Millstream for emergency crews and local residents only.
“The cause of the collision is under investigation. The fuel spill is a risk for motorists and first responders, as well as a potential environmental hazard. We ask for patience from drivers who are affected by any delays as emergency crews deal with the closure of Highway 1,” says Cpl. Chris Dovell of the West Shore RCMP.
