Nanaimo man charged with attempted murder after stabbing

A Nanaimo man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after stabbing a 25-year-old man early Saturday morning.

According to police, the man was stabbed several times at a townhouse complex in the 500 block of Fifth Street, between Harewood Road and Bruce Avenue.

Nanaimo RCMP officers were called to the scene and arrested a 27-year-old Matthew Dean Tremblay nearby.

The victim who suffered life-threatening injuries is recovering at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he is expected to remain for at least another week.

Tremblay appeared in Nanaimo provincial court on Tuesday and was remanded into custody. His next appearance has been scheduled for April 18.
