Two Victoria police officers assaulted in the line of duty

Share

On Thursday night, two Victoria police officers were assaulted in separate incidents, and one of them is currently recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The first case involved a woman camping on illegal property in the 800-block of Wharf Street. It was just past 10 PM when two officers came up to her and offered her a ride to a shelter or a place where camping is legal.

Without warning, the woman attacked both officers but thankfully was unsuccessful in injuring either. She was promptly arrested without further incident.

Street fight on Douglas

The second case happened in the 1200-block of Douglas Street at around 2:30 AM. Officers arrived on site to find an ongoing fight between several people.

One officer tried to break up the altercation when he was assaulted by a young woman who was involved in the incident. She injured the officer before being taken into custody, as more police officers arrived to help stop the fight.

This case is still under investigation, and authorities are recommending that the woman be charged with assaulting a police officer and assault causing bodily harm.
