Vancouver Island freeskier Cassie Sharpe is going for gold at the PyeongChang Olympics with the best qualifying score in the ladies’ ski halfpipe.
The 25-year-old from Comox qualified in style with a top score of 93.40 for her second run at Phoenix Snow Park on Sunday.
As the top qualifier, Sharpe hopes she has set herself up for a potential victory lap because she will have the last run in the halfpipe in tonight’s final.
Sochi 2014 silver medallist Marie Martinod (FRA) qualified in second place with a best-run score of 92.00.
The 33-year-old, who won the 2017 X Games halfpipe competition, said she felt great being able to land two runs during Monday’s qualification.
The women’s ski halfpipe final begins at begins Monday at 5:30 p.m. PT.
