The last weekend of February is upon us, and it’s going to be a chilly one!

Saturday, February 24th

Squirrelly Squirrels! Guided Walk

What: What does it take to survive as a squirrel? With a CRD Regional Parks naturalist discover what keeps these furry creatures busy at this time of year.
Guided Walk for 5 years and under.

V-Day Sooke 2018 Presents “The Vagina Monologues”

What: On February 24, 2018, at 7pm, V-Day Sooke will present a one-night only benefit reading of Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues. This event is entirely produced by volunteers and members of the community. As with all V-Day events this performance will donate 90% of the money raised to a local organization working to stop violence against women & girls & 10% will go to V-Day to support the work they do globally. We are proud to announce that this year’s beneficiary is the Sooke Transition House Society.

Jamie McDonald – Adventureman visits us in-store!

What: Come and meet Jamie McDonald in-store and hear all about his cross-Canada adventure and buy a copy of his book ‘Adventureman’!
Jamie McDonald is a British adventurer who is best known for running 5,000 miles solo coast to coast across Canada in 2013 and 2014. He was dressed as the superhero The Flash for the whole run. He set off from St John’s in March 2013 and finished the journey in February 2014 in Vancouver, Jamie spoke to schools throughout the entire journey to help with fundraising. He raised more than £250,000 for children’s charities in the UK and Canada in a bid to give back to the charities that supported him as an unwell child – hospitals in the UK and also Canadian charities such as SickKids Foundation.

Pendulum

What: An Indigenous Showcase is a multidisciplinary showcase that will present both traditional and contemporary Indigenous performances from across Canada.

Justice For Tina Fontaine

What: This event will be held as a protest in the aftermath of the verdict released on February 22nd in which Raymond Cormier was found not guilty in the second-degree murder of 15 year old Tina Fontaine. Systematic colonial violence in Canada still remains rampant and they will take action in letting the government and leaders know that they
will not be silenced.

The Coldest Night of the Year 

What: Over 170 walkers have already raised more than $30,000 for Our Place’s first ever Coldest Night of the Year walk for homelessness on Saturday, Feb. 24. Registration begins at 4 p.m. at Our Place, 919 Pandora Avenue, followed by Mayor Helps at 5 p.m., and the walk begins. A special meal, sponsored by Whole Foods, for all participants will be served at Our Place from 6 – 8 p.m.

Victoria Royals vs. Portland Winterhawks (Pink in the Rink)

What: Come support your Victoria Royals as they battle it out against the Portland Winterhawks. The Royals will be making a departure from their usual blue, black, and silver decor for the team’s seventh annual Pink in the Rink event!

Thetis Lake Loop Guided Adult Hike

What: Join in a  hike around Thetis Lake while exploring the park’s natural history with a CRD Regional Parks naturalist. Bring a snack, lunch and water and wear sturdy hiking

Victoria-National Cupcake Day for RASTA Sanctuary!

What: Do you like vegan cupcakes? Do you like to help animals?
Then come on down to the outside of Market on Yates on February 25, 2018 to support National Cupcake Day!! 🙂

Beach Cleanup!

What: Come join the beach cleanup hosted by Geography 407 students at UVIC. This is an event for everybody in the community, so please share this with whoever you want.
Garbage bags and gloves will be provided for all volunteers, as well as refreshments.
This event will happen rain or shine, so dress accordingly!

Breaker’s Jam

What: Calling all Hip-hop dancers, bboys and bgirls, trickers and parkor runners! You’re all invited to come practice during the open-level Drop-in on Sunday nights from 8-10pm for those ages 16 and up.
