Last night, the figure skating program had a case of Déjà Vu.
Three separate pairs used the song Despacito in their program. The viral hit by Daddy Yankee, Justin Bieber, and Luis Fonsihas has over a million streams on Spotify and 4.6 billion plays on YouTube.
The popular song was a good fit as competitors were required to incorporate a Latin rhythm into their routine.
This is the first year that competitors can use words with lyrics for their routines, so pop songs are fair game for the figure skating programs.
China’s Xinyu Liu and Shiyue Wang were first to use the song, followed by Korea’s Alexander Gamelin and Yura Min, and then was heard a third time in Polish skaters Maksym Spodyriev and Natalia Kaliszek’s routine.

Oh good, #Despacito is on again. Don't skaters check in with each other on their song choices? Isn't it like prom dresses?#Olympics #FigureSkating

Now I'm low key disappointed when "Despacito" is *not* part of an ice dancing routine. #FigureSkating

So I guess if Despacito is used one more time during these ice dancing proceedings, people are gonna riot
