Sidney North Saanich RCMP have released images of two people they are calling witnesses in hopes the public can help identify them.

On January 12, a backpack was stolen from the checked luggage carousel at the Swartz
Bay BC Ferry terminal in North Saanich at around 8:45 p.m. and its owner wants it back.

The bag belonged to Tyler Turner who lost his leg last year during a serious parachuting incident. Inside the backpack was a GoPro camera with footage of the accident.

According to police, an unknown man and woman were seen on surveillance video leaving a parked vehicle and entering the terminal. The woman bought a ticket for the man and then went back to the vehicle.

During this time, a different man in a dark jacket with a hood grabbed the backpack from the luggage area and went to the same vehicle as the woman.

Police said the first two individuals are being considered witnesses at this time but will know who the suspect is.

The other contents of the backpack include sunglasses, prescription medication and a handicap parking pass.

Turner is currently recovering from his injuries at GF Strong Hospital in Vancouver.

Anyone with information on the theft or the identity of the witnesses is asked to call Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931. Or to remain anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
