Victoria International Airport said that it had handled nearly 2-million passenger trips in 2017.
YYJ has welcomed and sent off over 1.7-million passengers this year from January to November, which is up 4.4% from the same period of 2016, according to data released by the Victoria Airport Authority.
Including December’s projections, the airport should fall just short of the 2-million passenger mark, which would surpass the all-time high set in 2016.
In 2016, 1,856,000 passengers travelled through YYJ. Should 2017’s numbers hit the projected 1,950,000 range; it would represent a 20% five-year growth from 2013.
Passenger growth has far exceeded expectations, as original studies from 2012 projected YYJ would hit the 2-million flyer mark by 2020.
With growth happening quicker than originally anticipated, proposed expansion plans could come to fruition sooner than later.
