On Sunday, December 17th at around 7 PM, Sidney North Saanich RCMP, the Sidney Fire Department, and the B.C. Ambulance Service all responded to a call about a couple of pedestrians on a crosswalk being hit by a sedan.

According to CTV and CHEK news reports, two international students were taken to hospital after they were hit by a car while crossing the street at a crosswalk near the intersection of Weiler Avenue and Lochside Drive.

One of them was taken to Victoria General Hospital while the other was sent to Saanich Peninsula Hospital. According to officials,  both suffered non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP officers have stated that speed and alcohol were not involved in the accident, and they are now investigating whether or not the students had activated the crosswalk signals.

At this time, the driver and a witness are both cooperating with the investigators, stating that darkness and heavy rainfall were contributing factors in the incident.
