Saturday, December 9th
An approximate 45-minute closure of the existing bridge will occur sometime between 7 AM – 9 AM
Intermittent bridge closures will occur for several hours between 9:15 AM and 5 PM

Sunday, December 10th
Intermittent closures will occur between 8 AM – 11 AM and an approximate 45-minute closure will occur when the crane barge exits from under the current bridge between 2:45 PM – 5 PM

The dates and times above are subject to change and are weather dependent as the steel pieces cannot be lifted during high winds.

“Dynamic Beast” will inhabit Victoria

Dynamic Beast is the name of the massive crane that will be performing surgery on the Johnson Bridge, and is the reason for buses being re-routed.

It’s a 330ft-tall crane whose task is to lift and place the bridge’s steel rings and lower counterweight.

The best view of the construction activities will be from the northeast side of the bridge near Canoe Brewpub and Mermaid Wharf or on the project webcam (below).

The crane should finish its duties by Sunday, but could stick around until Tuesday if necessary.

Victoria Harbour Ferry providing alternate transportation

To help alleviate the traffic congestion, the Victoria Harbour Ferry is pulling some of its fleet out of winter rest and will be offering service to and from the Delta Hotel Dock, Regent Hotel, and Causeway Floats (Empress Dock).

The cost to cross (including children and seniors) is $2.00 one-way. The service will be available between 8 AM and 5 PM
