12 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend: November 18-19

Welcome to another glorious weekend, Victorians! Can you believe there are only 6 more until the year ends?!

Here are few things happening in and around the city this weekend.

Festival of Trees

  • What: Over 80 local businesses and organizations have rooted their decorated Christmas trees throughout the mall, in a jaw dropping show of holiday spirit. All you have to do is cast your vote for your favourite tree with a donation to the B.C. Children’s Hospital.
  • When: November 16th – January 2nd, regular shopping hours
  • Where: The Bay Centre, Douglas St.
  • Admission: Free. Vote by donation

Uptown Christmas Tree Light-up

  • What: Santa Claus is about to light up the 54-foot-tall Christmas tree at Uptown tomorrow, and you’re invited to watch it happen. Come out (and bring the kids) to see the parade starting at 6:10 PM, featuring Santa Claus, the Grinch, Disney Princesses and Harvey the HarbourCat!
  • When: Saturday, November 18th
    Parade starts at 6:10 PM
    Christmas tree light up and music starts at 6:30 PM

Victoria Midlife Show 2017

  • What: Travel, food and drink trends, biking, fashion, volunteering, ongoing learning, home renovations, technology, starting a lifestyle business – explore your opportunities with close to 100 interactive exhibits, demonstrations and speakers at The Victoria MidLife Show.
  • When: Saturday, November 18th, 10 AM – 5 PM
  • Where: Victoria Conference Centre

The Road Forward, a Musical Documentary

  • WhatThe Road Forward, a musical documentary by Marie Clements, connects a pivotal moment in Canada’s civil rights history-the beginnings of Indian Nationalism in the 1930s-with the powerful momentum of First Nations activism today. Director Marie Clements will be in attendance and a Q&A will take place following the screening, in partnership with the Pacific Opera Victoria.

Experience the Armed Forces

  • What: Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to complete the Canadian Armed Forces fitness test? What military rations taste like? What it feels like to wear full military gear? Have questions about life in the military? Here’s your chance to find out during the Experience the Canadian Armed Forces interactive event taking place at the Bay Street Armoury.
  • When: Saturday, November 18th, 10 AM – 3 PM

Cedar Hill Early Bird Holiday Market

  • What: Cedar Hill studio artists invite you to The Arts Centre for their popular once-annual sale of pottery, art and crafts! Timed perfectly for the holidays find an array of unique, locally made gifts!
  • When: Saturday, November 18th, 10 AM – 3 PM
  • Where: Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, 3220 Cedar Hill Rd

Bonfire in Saanichton

  • What: The Rashleighs at Saanichton Farm are hosting another annual bonfire event on Saturday, November 18th. Bring your friends, brings your family, bring your neighbours. It will be a night to remember with food, fun, fire, family, and maybe even a hay ride.
  • When: Saturday, November 18th, 6 PM – 8 PM

Local Comic Shop Day

Night of Lights 

  • What: The evening includes retailer incentives/discounts, door prizes (including a trip for 4 to Disneyland), entertainment, appetizers and TONS of FUN! Enjoy a great shopping event and support your favourite local charity, school or youth sports team! Every penny of the tickets sold goes to the non-profit groups!

Christmas Craft Fair

  • What: Knitting, jams, sewing, painted glass, quilts, wooden figures, baking, jewelry, avon, tupperware, scentsy, epicure and many more great crafts!

  • Admission: Free

Themed Trivia Night: Game of Thrones edition

  • What: Game of Thrones Trivia is coming to Victoria! Come with a team of up to 6 people or even try it solo. We will have three rounds of trivia from the movies of one of the most popular shows on television! Questions will range from easy to extremely tough for those who think they know it all. Cool prizes to be won!

Rock Reel 12 Victoria

  • What: The annual REEL ROCK Film Tour is coming to Victoria! Come see this years awesome line up and sample the ultimate in adventure filmmaking. UVic’s Outdoors Club will be screening the film at the Bob Wright Center on November 19th. Prize giveaways, raffles, popcorn, and fundraising for non-profit organizations are always part of the party at REEL ROCK events.
