This month marks the 20th anniversary of one of Vancouver Island’s most widely publicized crimes. On November 14th, 1997, a group of teens viciously beat and drowned 14-year-old Reena Virk under the Craigflower bridge.
To mark the anniversary, the Artemis Place Society and Learning through Loss are hosting a ceremony on Tuesday, November 14th at the Craigflower Schoolhouse.
The groups hope the event will honour Reena Virk’s life and also inspire a renewed commitment to nonviolence.
Speakers include Reena’s father, Manjit Virk and Education Minister Rob Fleming. The event is scheduled for between 12:30 and 2:00 pm.
You can also show commitment to safe and inclusive communities by using the hashtags #iremember #reena and #icommit2nonviolence.
