A loud rumbling heard over Victoria around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening caused a stir across the city and online.
Locals speculated about the source of the noise – which sounded like an airplane, but seemed much louder than usual – on various social media platforms, including Reddit.
One post entitled “Did anybody else hear that?” garnered over 40 responses, with many confirming the experience and some offering explanations.

“Airplane finder says nothing. That means military. My guess is either CF-18s, F-15s from Portland or EA-18 Growlers from Whidbey,” wrote user imprezzed.
“Freaked me out from UVIC,” wrote AwwwFiddlesticks.
“Incredibly loud here in the Jubilee area,” added creepywizard.
Despite the comical usernames, the mysterious noise seemed to genuinely unsettle many Victorians. However, an official explanation released this morning should assuage any fears.
