Share

Yep, you guessed it! Yesterday was Wednesday, which means today is Thursday.

From A Street Cat Named Bob screening, to the opening day of oneTree, to an evening sampling beers from the 2017 BC Beer Awards, today is jam-packed with things to do around town.

A Street Cat Named Bob: Silent Auction and Movie Screening

  • What: A great night out to raise funds for Cat’s Cradle Animal Rescue! We are hosting a special screening of A Street Cat Named Bob – an amazing and heartwarming true story of a homeless heroin addict who gets ‘rescued’ by a stray cat, along with a silent auction with some fabulous silent auction items from local artists, restaurants, breweries, spas and so much more. Plus a 50/50 draw and door prizes. Special treat – the concession will be selling beer & wine, yum!
  • Where: The Roxy Theatre, 2657 Quadra St
  • Time: 6:00pm – 10:00pm.
  • Cost: $30.08 after fees and taxes. Guests will receive a $20 tax receipt.

oneTree – Opening day

  • What: Some 100 years ago, a walnut tree was planted on St. Charles Street in Oak Bay. It grew to be a massive, healthy tree until it began splitting down the middle. Its destiny? Firewood, of course! That’s when oneTree 2017 stepped in. A collaboration of artists each received a portion of the tree, and together are celebrating life and demonstrating the economic value of a singular tree. From vases, to whale sculptures, to tables, bowls, and trinkets: what these artists have done with just one tree will blow your mind. Check out the video here!
  • Where: Robert Bateman Center, 470 Belleville St.
  • Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm.
  • Cost: $10.00

The Original Deed

  • What: Today, the Emanu-El synagogue in downtown Victoria is a beautifully restored landmark and a National Historic Site. But it was nearly lost forever a generation ago, when a move was afoot to sell the old building and relocate to the suburbs. In a re-creation of these events, writer Sid Tafler tells a story of love, loss, regret, conflict and healing among eight members of a family–and their lawyer. Sam is in a pitched battle with his son Morris over the sale of the synagogue that threatens to tear apart their family and community.
  • Where: Emanu-El synagogue, 1461 Blanshard.
  • Time: 7:00pm.
  • Cost: $20 for adults, $15 for students. Tickets here.

Solace CD Release

  • What: An evening to celebrate Nic Whitehouse’s debut EP Solace. Joined by friends to play his original music from the album, as well as unrecorded tracks, and a few covers by some of his favourite artists.
  • Where: Caffe Fantastico, 965 Kings Rd.
  • Time: 7:00pm – 10:00pm.
  • Cost: $10
