From the Western Canada’s oldest continuous agricultural fair to the best fireworks this city has seen, here are 8 things to this Labour Day weekend.

2017 Saanich Fair

  • What: From horse shows to Highland dance competitions, the Saanich Fair truly is a celebration of community. Live performances, hundreds of furry creatures, and entertainment for the entire family, it’s easy to see why this has been going strong for 149 years.
  • When: 8am – 9pm Saturday and Sunday. 8am-6pm Monday.
  • Where: Saanich Fairgrounds, 1528 Stellys Cross Rd.
  • Cost: Adults: $13. Youth/Senior: $7. Children 6 and under: Free.

24th Vancouver Island Blues Bash

  • What: Exactly what it sounds like; a full menu of live blues music ready to guide you, your dance moves, and your friends through a day of dancin’.
  • When: All day Saturday & Sunday. Afternoon performances on Monday.
  • Where: Ship Point, 900 block of Wharf Street.
  • Cost: Afternoon shows free; Evening shows $28 each or $45 for both.

Fireworks at Butchart Gardens

  • What: The last weekend of Butchart’s Gardens summer fireworks is upon us. 40 years of summer fireworks means these folks know what they’re doing, and you don’t want to miss it. After the aerial show, check out Night Illuminations or a recital from the Aeolian Pipe Organ.  There will also be live music by Tropic Mayhem at 5:45 p.m.
  • When: Saturday, 8:45pm start.
  • Where: The Butchart Gardens, 800 Benvenuto Ave
  • Cost: $32.60 admission

Greekfest

  • What: Now in its 15th year, this family festival is put on by The Greek Community Society and is their biggest annual fundraiser! Soak up Greek culture while enjoying great live local entertainment, food and beverages!
  • When:  Sept 1st  – 4th from 11am to 10pm
  • Where: 4648 Elk Lake Drive
  • Cost:  Free

3rd Annual “Music & Tea in the Court”

  • What: The event is to celebrate original music and tea while all donations will be for the Nana Foundation Animal Charity. The foundation helped JagaSilk owners Jared and Miyuki save their cat Jaga (the namesake of the company) back in 2005, and they hope to “give back to this organization to support the many lives they save”.
  • When: Saturday, 12pm-5pm.
  • Where: Nootka Court, 17A-633 Courtney Street.
  • Cost: $5 plus a donation.

40th annual Classic Boat Festival

  • What: A number of the vessels will be open to the public over the weekend and a full list of activities can be found under the Schedule of Events section on the festival’s website.
  • When: September 1st to 3rd
  • Where: Inner Harbour

Moon Brewery and Pub 5 Year Anniversary Event

  • What: Help celebrate their 5 year anniversary with the launch of their Year 5 barrel aged wheat wine beer! Live music by The Weeds, BBQ, and Baron of Beef will keep the party going all day. Giveaways, tastings, and delicious food awaits!
  • When: Saturday, 11:30am – 10pm.
  • Where: The Moon Under Water Brewpub
  • Cost: $2 donation to Victoria Humane Society

Lust Life Jazz Band Plays the Pacific Lounge

  • What: Let Lust Life take you for a musical ride with jazz, pop, funk, latin, party, and swing arrangements.
  • When: Saturday, 8pm – 11pm.
  • Where: The Pacific Lounge – Hotel Grand Pacific
  • Cost: Free. Table reservations by phone, 1-800-663-7550.
