The Baby Bed program is coming to Vancouver Island this fall

Are you expecting a baby or have a new-born now? Here’s a great program for you to take advantage of!

The Baby Bed program – an initiative designed to promote safe sleeping practices for families with newborn babies – is about to be implemented on Vancouver Island, thanks to Island Health and The Baby Box Co.

Basically, if you are a pregnant woman or a family with a newborn baby (less than three months old), you are eligible for a free bed for your little one!

The idea behind the program is to combat sleep-related injuries and improper sleep practices, which are the main causes of death in otherwise healthy infants in our province.

Participants in the program will be required to watch online videos about how to safely put their baby to bed, and earn a certificate which can be redeemed for a free bed!

The concept was first introduced in Finland in 1938 and was highly successful in reducing the nation’s infant mortality rate.

Although B.C. already has one of the country’s lowest infant mortality rates, this program will definitely help reduce it even further!
