Skydiver filming tandem jump crashes in Saanichton field

Share

A skydiver was sent to hospital Monday afternoon with non-life threatening injuries, after a hard landing into a field in Saanichton.

He was shooting a video of two other divers performing a tandem jump. All went well in the air, but as he approached the ground a sudden wind shift made for a challenging, hard landing.

Equipment to Undergo Inspection

Capital City Skydiving owner Bob Verret told Peninsula News Review that his employee is an experienced skydiver with over 300 jumps to his name. The equipment will be inspected, though Verret said it was in good working order.

He was taken to hospital Monday with injuries to his ankle, where he remains as of Tuesday morning.

Verret also said that the incident will be reviewed by the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association with hopes of preventing it from reoccurring.

The police are also investigating, as well as WorkSafeBC and Transport Canada.
