Saanich Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a voyeurism suspect who used a GoPro style camera to spy on at least one woman at a park washroom.

The incident happened on September 5, just after 9:00 am at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park.

Police said a group of three women were at the park when one of them went to use the
washroom at the south parking lot.

Flashing Light Coming From Camera on “Selfie Stick”

When the woman was using the outhouse she noticed a light coming from beneath her. As she looked down she noticed a camera with a bright light flashing up towards her.

She told police the camera was attached to what appeared to be a “Selfie Stick” and appeared to be coming from the washroom stall that backed onto hers.

When the woman noticed the camera she screamed which alerted her friends who were waiting outside the washroom. They watched as the suspect fled the stall. He was last seen headed west on a trail towards Beaver Lake Rd.

“This is an extremely disturbing incident,” said A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie. “Officers from our Patrol Division and our Canine Unit attended immediately and attempted to locate the suspect. The search was unsuccessful. However, Officers from our Forensic Identification Section also attended and collected potential evidence from the scene.”

Suspect Description

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20’s to early 30’s, 5’10” tall
with an athletic build.

He has short dark brown hair and looked clean cut with a possible beard. The suspect was wearing a green T-shirt, darker coloured shorts, and running shoes.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Saanich Police or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
