With October just around the corner, this weekend is your last chance to capitalize on Victoria culture before being bombarded by ghosts and ghouls.

Get your weekend rolling with our list of 13 things to do this weekend, from Friday, September 29th to Sunday, October 1st.

Multi-day Weekend Events

Victoria Vintage Expo

  • What: The Victoria Vintage Expo is their biggest fair of the year, with over 70 vendors and exhibitors! The show features vintage fashionable items including: clothing, jewelry, accessories, as well as housewares, mid-century style, record, decor, steam punk, art, furniture, and vintage inspired items. Check what’s for sale and on display here. The event will also feature roaming fashion shows, live music/D.J., guest speakers and other entertainment. Check the entertainment schedule here!
  • Where: Crystal Garden, 713 Douglas St.
  • When: Friday, 4pm-1pm. Saturday, 10am-6pm.
  • Cost: Single day: $10. Weekend pass: $12.

Vancouver Island Baby Fair

  • What: There will be baby races. Oh, and over 60 exhibitors offering the latest and greatest in young child care. You can enter your child into the Vancouver Island Baby Fair Photo Contest, or consult healthcare professionals to make sure your tiny human grows up to be healthy and happy.
  • Where: Pearkes Recreation Centre, 3100 Tillicum Rd.
  • When: Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Sunday, 10am – 4pm.
  • Cost: $8 per person, $10 weekend pass. Kids 12 and under are free.

Victoria Brewery Tour 

  • What: Samples. Lots of samples. Enjoy round trip transportation on their deluxe 14-passenger mini bus, and tour some of Victoria’s top breweries such as Vancouver Island Brewing, Axe and Barrel, Category 12 Brewing, and the Victoria Caledonian Distillery. Victoria’s beer scene is buzzing!
  • When: Friday through Monday starting at 4pm.
  • Cost: $75 per person

Van Isle Tattoo Expo

  • What: Check out the latest in the world of tattoo’s, get inked yourself, and explore some of the most creative work in the industry. The Expo is part-showcase part-competition as artists show the inked world the talents they offer.
  • Where: Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas St.
  • Cost: Single day: $15. Weekend pass: $35.
  • When:
    • Friday, 4pm – 11pm (19+)
    • Saturday, 11am – 11pm (all ages)
    • Sunday, 11am – 6pm (all ages)

Friday, September 29th

First Year Distillery Party

  • What: An evening devoted to their whisky in progress. Cask 23 is finally one year (and one day) old, and they’re opening it up so the public can try their Mac Na Braiche or single malt spirit! This will be an exclusive opportunity to meet the whisky makers for Victoria Caledonian, our Distillery Founder Graeme Macaloney, and legendary Master Distiller Mike Nicolson.
  • Where: Victoria Caledonian Brewery & Distillery, 761 Enterprise Crescent.
  • When: Friday, 3pm – 8pm.
  • Cost: Free admission

Delhi 2 Dublin at Capital Ballroom (formerly Sugar Nightclub)

  • What: Vancouver-based Delhi 2 Dublin is a group of five musicians who mash up electronica and world music, keeping it heavy on the Bhangra, Celtic and Dub flavours. Fusing tabla, fiddle, dhol, Punjabi vocals, and electric sitar with scorching electronic beats, the crew takes listeners on a wild ride through global sounds and synchronizations.
  • Where: Capital Ballroom, 858 Yates St.
  • When: Friday, 8pm.
  • Cost: $22.50 per ticket

Saturday, September 30th

Afghanistan Memorial Unveiling

  • What: The memorial will honor the more than 40,000 Canadians who served in Afghanistan, the 163 who died during the mission, those who returned with mental and physical wounds, and the families and loved ones of them all.
  • Where: Corner of Quadra and Courtney Streets.
  • When: Saturday, 1:15pm start.
  • Cost: Free
  • Live stream: Victoria Buzz facebook page will live stream at roughly 1:40pm.

Delight the Senses

  • What: Prepare to be captivated by this sensory overload! Painters, sculptors, and photographers will tease your curiosity with stunning creations. A violinist and pianist will provide the soothing melody of timeless instruments, and a delectable menu of light bites will satiate your taste buds. High-end floral decor and intricate jewelry work will all combine to make this an unforgettable sensory experience.
  • Where: The Atrium, 800 Yates St.
  • When: Saturday, 7pm – 10pm.
  • Cost: Tickets are $100 online.

Victoria Royals vs. Kamloops Blazers

  • What: The Royals play their third game of the season after smashing Vancouver 7-1, and 6-1 in their first two games. Come out and support the boys!
  • Where: Save-on-Foods Memorial Center.
  • When: Saturday, 7:05pm puck drop.
  • Cost: Adult tickets range from $15.50-$25.50.

13th Annual Chili Cookoff

  • What: This Langford community event invites everyone to enjoy amazing chili while mixing with the wonderful WestShore community. Between 11 and 2pm attendees can purchase a chili tasting kit where you can sample all of the chili, and cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award.
  • Where: Eagle Ridge Community Centre, 1089 Langford Parkway.
  • When: Saturday, 10am – 5pm.
  • Cost: $5 which includes your tasting kit!

Fairfield Repair Cafe

  • What: The Repair Café is a free community event to which people can bring their damaged items from home to be repaired by volunteer “Fixers”. It’s also a chance to learn, with like-minded folks who believe in reusing instead of just discarding still-useful goods into the landfill. You can watch and even help, while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. It is a positive, friendly and interesting experience for all.
  • Where: Fairfield Gonzales Community Association
  • When: Saturday, 10am – 1pm.
  • Cost: Free

Lettuce meet mixer

  • What: Lettuce meet! Join fellow vegans in a fun mixer open to people of all ages. Vegan cocktails will be available for purchase, and a delicious spread from The Very Good Butchers. Meet and mix with like-minded folks!
  • Where: Victoria Public Market, 1701 Douglas St #6.
  • When: Saturday, 7pm – 10pm.
  • Cost: $15, includes a vegan selection of yummies.

Sunday, October 1st

Skate with the Victoria Royals after battling the Blazers

  • What: Victoria’s fourth game of the season immediately follows their third, and hopefully continues their hot start to the season. Skate with the Victoria Royals after the game! Skating session usually lasts roughly 45 minutes – sharpen up your skates!
  • Where: Save-on-Foods Memorial Center.
  • When: Sunday, 3:05pm puck drop. The skate should begin at roughly 6:00.
  • Cost: Adult tickets range from $15.50-$25.50.

Dunkirk at Imax Victoria

  • What: Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
  • Where: IMAX Victoria, 675 Belleville St.
  • When: Friday – Sunday, 7:15pm screening.
  • Cost: $15.20 for standard admission. This is a reserved seating showing, tickets must be purchased.
