A Zodiac vessel hit a humpback whale on Monday, causing two passengers to be taken to hospital.

Prince of Whales Whale Watching confirmed the incident with CTV News, saying that it occurred around 2:45 pm near Race Rocks Ecological Reserve.

The humpback whale reportedly surfaced unexpectedly directly in front of the Zodiac.

The two injured passengers were taken back to Victoria Harbour and were then transported to hospital. The exact nature of their injuries has not been released. However, as of Tuesday, one had been released while the other was in stable condition.

Prince of Whales said the humpback did not appear to be injured.

The incident is now being investigated by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Transport Canada.
