Oak Bay Police’s interaction with a woman before her death released

The Independent Investigations Office has released details surrounding the death of a woman in May 2017.

Earlier this week, the IIO announced that the Oak Bay Police had been cleared of any wrongdoing in the case.

According to an IIO spokesman, at approximately 9:30 am on May 26, Oak Bay police officers spoke to the woman outside of Marrion Village, a subsidized seniors’ rental apartment on Bee Street.

“The officer spoke to her and he made the assessment that no further action needed to be taken,” Youssef said. The woman went inside after being asked to.

One hour later, a 911 caller reported that the same woman was in distress. Police responded but could not locate her.

The next morning, the woman was found dead in the creek near Fort Street and Foul Bay Road, just steps from the rental apartment.

Foul play has been ruled out and the case is now being investigated by the B.C. Coroners Service.
