A former BC Liberal leader is suing John Horgan, a cabinet member, and an NDP MP for $5 million

Gordon Wilson, British Columbia’s former liquefied natural gas advocate and BC Liberal leader from 1987–1993, is seeking $5-million in a defamation lawsuit from three prominent NDP politicians.

Wilson was recently fired after four years as an LNG advocate under the BC Liberal government.

The lawsuit seeks millions from Premier John Horgan, Jobs Minister Bruce Ralston and a federal NDP MP over their statements regarding his recent work.

“The defendants, together and individually, undertook a campaign to destroy the plaintiff’s reputation from the position of authority and credibility granted to them by their offices,” reads the lawsuit.

Lawsuit alleges an attempt to “destroy (Wilson)’s reputation”

At the time of his firing, Horgan said Wilson produced “no briefings, no reports, no memoranda” during his tenure.

Ralston stated that it was “very difficult to see that he accomplished anything other than to cash his cheques.”

Blaney wrote on Facebook that “this is the reason people are so cynical about politics. No notes, nothing tracking the work he had done. Taxpayers paid $550,000 for what?”

But it later became apparent that Wilson had indeed made detailed documents and notes detailing his work and the three have since apologized.

Despite the apologies and retractions, on Thursday, Wilson’s lawyer submitted a claim in the defamation suit to B.C. Supreme Court.
