Better late than never… The first shipment of steel components for the Johnson Street Bridge has finally arrived, three years late.

Following myriad issues, the most recent of which involved rust accumulation in a Chinese shipyard, the bridge’s construction appears to be back on track.

The shipment arrived around 10:15 pm on August 22 at the Point Hope Shipyard. The first of two, it contains the north and south rings, the lower counterweight, and a temporary structure to support the bridge during installation.

Mayor Lisa Helps posted an update regarding the shipment’s arrival on Facebook. Her response was greeted with mixed feelings in the comment section.
