Construction set to begin on Admirals Road safety-improvement project

Share

Victoria residents will begin to see work on Admirals Road between Hallowell Road and Maple Bank Road.

The project is designed to “improve safety and access for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists”.

Plans include widening the road with a new curb, gutter, and sidewalks, as well as upgrading the stormwater drainage system.

Intersections at Maple Bank, Hallowell and See’Nu’Pin will also see changes.

At See’Nu’Pin Road, the turn lane will be enhanced and a new southbound left-turn lane will be constructed. In addition, new traffic lights will be installed at Maple Bank Road.

“I look forward to seeing this project get underway as it will benefit residents and others who use this important community connection with safer intersections and more room for pedestrians and cyclists,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena.

Potential Traffic Disruptions

“During construction, every effort will be made to ensure traffic delays are kept minimal, particularly during peak periods,” said Trevena.

One lane will be kept open to traffic in each direction between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Outside of these hours, drivers can expect single-lane alternating traffic at certain times. Work may also occur overnight.

Motorists are reminded to obey traffic control personnel, watch for workers and pay special attention to signs because traffic patterns will change throughout the project.

The ministry has awarded a $3.45-million contract to Jacob Bros. Construction Inc.

The project is expected to be completed by winter 2017.
