Saanich police have issued a warning to residents – especially parents with children -following a bear sighting in Bow Park on Monday night.

“Area residents, parents of children who may be playing in the area and people visiting the park are advised to be aware of this sighting,” said S/Sgt. Mark Muth in a statement.

The bear was spotted at 9:00 pm in a little-wooded park, located between Cedar Hill Road and McKenzie Avenue.

Police said it was seen near the park’s small pond.

What To Do If You See A Bear:

If confronted with a bear, authorities say to avoid eye contact, provide it with an escape route and to remain calm. Generally, bears will not bother you if you don’t bother them.

Saanich police searched the area but were unable to locate the animal.

B.C. Conservation officers have also been informed.
