North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a red pick-up truck involved in a hit-and-run collision, injuring a family of three including an infant.

The collision happened Aug. 17 just after 9 pm, when the family’s blue Mitsubishi Lancer was allegedly struck from behind in a left-turn lane on the Trans-Canada Highway at Mt. Sicker Road.

Police said the driver of the truck got out of his vehicle and walked up to the car he’d struck to ask if the occupants were okay. They replied no, but the driver walked back to his truck and fled southbound on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was able to snap a picture of the red pickup truck as it fled.

According to police, the truck is a newer GMG or Chevrolet extended cab.

The husband, wife and infant were taken to a Cowichan District Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and were released that night.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set white man in his early to mi 40s, weighing roughly 220 pounds.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
