Victoria will welcome the Emerald Princess Cruise Ship on Saturday, just days after a passenger was arrested for allegedly killing his wife.

The FBI is now investigating Kenneth Ray Manzanares, 39, of Santa Clara, Utah, after he was arrested earlier this week on a criminal complaint charging him with murder.

According to the criminal complaint, on July 25, 2017, Emerald Princess Security and Medical personnel responded to an incident in the cabin occupied by Kenneth and his wife Kristy Manzanares.

Kristy was found in the cabin, deceased, with a severe head wound. She was a mother of three. The children were also on the ship.

Reports from CBS indicate that the cruise ship left Seattle on July 23 for a week-long round-trip cruise up the Pacific coast to Alaska. The ship had just departed from Ketchikan, Alaska, on Tuesday. But the death forced the crew to divert the ship to Juneau, where it arrived the following morning.

“She would not stop laughing at me”

According to court documents, prior to security officers arriving in the cabin, a witness observed Kenneth Manzanares grab Kristy’s body and drag her toward the balcony. The witness then held onto her body by the ankles and pulled her back into the cabin.

Those same documents allege that when asked what happened, Kenneth Manzanares said: “She would not stop laughing at me.”

Soon after the witness arrived, Emerald Princess security entered the cabin and restrained and secured Kenneth Manzanares. He was later arrested on July 26, 2017.
