Canada Day may have been a day off for most of us, but for a group of local firefighters, July 1st was as busy a workday as any. A blaze in a derelict house in Oak Bay on Saturday afternoon proved difficult to put out.
The fire occurred around 2:00 pm on July 1st in the 600 block of Beach Drive. Luckily, no one was home.
Cause of Fire Unclear
So far, there’s no word on what ignited the flames. Investigations began at the scene on Saturday.
Approximately 25 firefighters from Oak Bay, Victoria and Saanich joined forces to extinguish the fire.
“They knocked down the initial fire very quickly, but it was a question of overhauling it and getting all the hot spots out,” Oak Bay assistant fire chief Don Roskelley told the Times Colonist.
