A driver broke through barriers, then launched his truck onto a ferry

Early in the hours of June 24, an SUV smashed through locked security gates at Langdale ferry terminal and began to wreak havoc.

BC Ferries staff called police at 1:30 am, reporting a Chevy Blazer speeding towards the Queen of Surrey.

Undeterred by several more gates and barriers, the driver smashed his way through the terminal. Then, arriving at the docked ferry, he launched his vehicle off of a raised ramp towards the ship’s upper car deck.

For the result of this apparent attempt at a re-enactment of the movie Speed, see above.

Unbelievably, the unsuccessful stunt didn’t injure the driver, nor did it convince him to end his bizarre rampage. After the crash, he got out of the car, off the ferry, and then attempted to steal two staff vehicles from the terminal parking lot.

Arrest and 13 Charges

Police arrived quickly and BC Ferries staff provided suspect information.

Police then arrested the 25-year-old local man, Chase Campbell, and charged him with 13 offences. Those include Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Break and Enter, Assault of a Police Officer, Mischief over $5000 and Driving while Prohibited.
