Bike thefts in Victoria have been a problem for years. However, this week at Victoria Buzz the issue hit close to home. Our staff writer had his bike stolen from right outside our offices.
But this morning, Victoria Police tweeted a bike theft story that blew ours right out of the water. A couple of honeymooners had their $11,000 bike stolen from the intersection of Johnson and Government.
The theft happened last night (see below).
We need your help finding a bike. This bike was stolen last night from some tourists visiting #yyj on their honeymoon. Value: $11,000. pic.twitter.com/TcncbGEAg8

Luckily, within minutes of the tweet, the bike was found!
Great news. This bike was just recovered and is being returned to its owners! #yyj

And that’s just the second bike this morning.
We're happy to get this bike back to its owner this morning!! #yyj pic.twitter.com/BySJ2s2D76

Unfortunately, our writer still remains bike-less. And though his Kona Rove AL might not be worth over $10k, it’s priceless to him.
Also, he doesn’t have a car and his whining about BC Transit is already becoming unbearable.
One of our writers had his bike stolen from outside our office on Douglas Street. It's a blue Kona Rove AL. Let us know if you see it! #yyj pic.twitter.com/baQHNW4V6P

Shortly after we tweeted, Rikki Ayers responded to our tweet stating she had two bikes stolen from Cook Street Village this week.

Please keep an eye out for these bikes!
Bike Registry
Many local police detachments now have a bike registry program and after registering your bike, you will provide a means to track down any lost/stolen bicycles.
If you live in Victoria or Esqumalt, make sure to register your bike with VicPD. West Shore RCMP residents can register their bike here.
