BC Liquor Stores accepting donations for wildfire relief

Share

BC Liquor Stores are helping British Columbians support those impacted by the province’s wildfires. Donations will now be accepted at all locations.

Customers can now contribute at the till – in increments of $2, $5, or multiples thereof – with all proceeds going directly to the Red Cross. The funds will help satisfy the immediate needs of those affected, such as providing evacuees with shelter, food, and water.

Approximately 220 wildfires are currently burning in British Columbia and evacuation alerts and orders have been issued for several communities.

The extended weather forecast is calling for continued hot, dry weather, with risks of thunderstorms in many parts of the province. That doesn’t bode well for firefighting efforts.

“The generosity and compassion shown by our customers and employees during times of crisis is something we are incredibly proud of – it is the foundation of our partnership with the Red Cross,” said Blain Lawson, general manager and CEO of the Liquor Distribution Branch. “Our thoughts are with all British Columbians, and their family and friends, who are impacted by the current wildfire situation.”

As of Friday, July 7, 2017, the province has declared a state of emergency to ensure a co-ordinated response to the current wildfire situation and ensure public safety.

The province also announced a $100-million fund providing impacted communities and residents with rebuilding.
