RCMP confirm they are looking to identifying a man who allegedly attempted to get an 11-year-old boy into his van in Central Saanich on Sunday.

The boys aunt posted a warning on Facebook Sunday following the incident.

Michelle Nelson told Victoria Buzz her nephew was attending Sunday school.

After class at around 12:45 p.m, he began walking back to his mom’s place when he was approached by a man driving a van near Stautw Road at Church Road.

The man asked the boy to get into the vehicle. The boy did not recognize the driver and did not get into the van.

Nelson said her nephew then ran as fast as he could back to the church. He found an adult and reported the incident to police, RCMP said.

The suspect is described as First Nations, approximately 30-years-old, with a moustache and a beard. He was wearing a black ball cap with orange dots around it.

Police said the van was black with tinted side and back windows.  It had a sticker or picture on the back of the van near the licence plate, and possibly a sunroof.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931, local police, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
