New two-way bike lanes open between Mckenzie Ave and Cedar Hill Cross Rd

Share

Another day, another new bike lane.

The number of cycle-specific transport routes in and around Victoria continues to grow. On Wednesday, that growth came courtesy of the District of Saanich, who opened the Borden Street two-way cycle track.

This project provides a connection for bikes between McKenzie Avenue at Borden Street and Lochside Drive at Cedar Hill Cross Road.

New bike lanes in the area also give riders a much-needed connection between two entrances to the Lochside Trail.

The district hopes the new addition to Saanich’s cycling infrastructure will createa network for users of all ages and abilities.

Traffic signals on McKenzie Avenue between Nelthorpe Street and Borden Street have also been synchronized to allow for more efficient vehicle flow in this area.

Project highlights

  • A protected two-way cycle track and a safer bike crossing route at the McKenzie Ave and Borden Street intersection.
  • Enhanced street markings and safety signs to protect cyclists and pedestrians
