Girl Guides selling cookies today to raise funds after camping gear stolen

Share

A parent with a child in Portage Inlet Girl Guides has organized an emergency cookie sale to help replace camping equipment stolen from a leader’s vehicle.

About $2,000 worth of tents and stoves were taken overnight Monday from a car. The gear was needed for an international camp-out come July.

According to Ocean 98.5, friends rushed to their aid and offered to loan camping supplies to the group. The one problem is that the tents are really specific. The tents have to fit within a certain footprint for camping.

The cookie sale will be happening today, Saturday, May 20th, at 3730 Grange Rd, located across the road from Marigold Elementary.

Some guides will also be going door to door.

Many families and young girls turn to the Girl Guides for companionship and community involvement, and of course those priceless experiences of fun and independence that kids get from going to camp.

  • When: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — or until they’re sold out.
  • Where: 3730 Grange Rd., off Burnside Road West in Saanich
