Northern Lights show from Whiffen Spit in Sooke. ( Ian Terris Photography‎ )

The Northern Lights are on most people’s ‘must see’ list.

And for some lucky Vancouver Islanders, the light show hit their own backyards this weekend.

Those that caught the amazing experience shared their photos with social media for those of us that missed it or want to relive the amazing experience.

Spectacular view of the Northern Lights last night from Mt Tolmie.

This is a first for me. I've seen the Northern Lights a couple times when I was younger as I grew up in an area that had dark skies, but that was many years ago. Now I live near a city and further south so the chances of seeing this are very few and far between, both due to geographical location and the time they typically show. Last night my friend and I went out to do some star trails, though earlier I had seen notifications for the Aurora so I kept my fingers crossed. Well once it got dark it didn't take long for the Aurora to do its thing. For a couple hours, we had some of the best colour we had ever seen. This shot was taken from the pier in Sidney, B.C. What an epic experience we had last night out at Whiffin Spit in Sooke. I was out with my buddy Ian Terris Photography shooting the night sky out towards Shirley and we decided to make a stop at the Spit. Neither one of us was aware of the Aurora alerts and were in utter disbelieve when we pulled into the parking lot…..what a show! And to top it off, the Milky way was showing well, the fog rolled in and a comet blazed across the entire skyline. A night to remember for sure! #amazingvancouverisland #victoriahype #xlocalisland #sharevi #canadiancreatives #canada_photolovers #canada_true #thankyoucanada #shutterbugpix #canada_pic #imagesofcanada #canada_online #pocket_canada #vanisle #pnw #thecanadiancollective #hola_m #unlimitedcanada #weathernetwork #bcferries #victoriabuzz #explorevictoria #explorevi #exolorebc #explorecanada #beautifulbcmagazine #prismphotocontest #vipworldwide #splendidbeaches #aurora
