Two dogs stolen in Saanich while owner was grocery shopping

Saanich police are looking for two dogs stolen while tied to a handrail outside the Save on Foods on Shelbourne Street.

The dogs were stolen on Saturday at around 6:35 p.m.

Before entering the store, the owner noticed a man petting the dogs. When he returned less than ten minutes later, he saw his dogs were missing.

One witness told the dog owner she saw the same man running down Shelbourne St with the two dogs.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, around 25 years old, about 5’8″, with a thin build, dark hair, and no facial hair. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, dark sunglasses, and possibly a “lumberjack” jacket.


UPDATE: The owner confirms that 14-year-old Biggs was found last night near UVic and returned to them this morning.

Second Update: The second dog has been reunited with its owner. The German Shepherd was found tied up outside the MacLaurin building at the university at around noon today.


One dog is a 7-years-old female German Shepherd, traditional colour, approximately 100 pounds, has an identifying tattoo in her ear, and dark brown collar. She will respond to the name “Arrow.”

Saanich Police searched the area, however, did not locate the suspect or the two dogs.
