The BC Government announced today that they have purchased the Tally Ho Motor Inn on Douglas Street, for approximately $9.6 million.
According to a BC Housing press release, the building will provide 52 units of housing for low-to moderate-income individuals with mental-health and substance-abuse issues. Victoria’s Cool Aid Society will own and operate the building.
It’s expected to be a “low-barrier” concept, where tenants can continue to consume alcohol and illicit drugs on site while being offered optional programs.
The fate of the property had been a fairly tightly-held secret, since the hotel abruptly closed its doors to overnight guests in 2016, and the pub and restaurant facilities closed in February of this year.
